Birth Controlling Pills

Birth controlling is a method for females and males for preventing pregnancy.  There are varied procedures of birth controlling, inclusive of hormone-aided contraception, like “the Pill”.

Females orally take the pills for preventing pregnancy, and, if taken properly, the Pills are nearly 100 percent effective. Nonetheless, the pills do not help in guarding you against possible sexually transmitted diseases, like HIV (AIDS virus) or the infections, such as Chlamydia or Gonorrhea or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. The rubberized male condoms give the best safety from most STIs and STDs. Other kinds of hormonal combined, estrogen and progestin (synthetic progesterone) contraceptives are the vaginal rings and the patches.

The working of Hormones-aided Contraception

A female achieves pregnancy as and when an egg gets released from her ovaries, enveloped in the ovarian follicles, and is fertilized by a male’s sperm found in the semen in one of the Fallopian tubes.  Afterwards, the egg, thus, fertilized travels to the uterus (womb) and gets implanted in the uterine lining, known as endometrial lining, where it receives nourishment from the newly formed body organ placenta and develops into a baby. Hormones control the egg release from the ovaries and the process is known as ovulation, during which the body gets ready for accepting the fertilized egg.

Birth Controlling Choices

Hormones-aided contraceptives, such as the vaginal ring, the patch and the pill, all have a small quantity of synthetic progestin and estrogen hormones. These synthetic hormones act to reduce the body’s usual recurring hormones against pregnancy. A combined factors help in preventing a pregnancy. The hormonal contraceptive generally prevents ovulation in the females during their reproductive cycle. Besides, they thicken the cervical mucus, making it hard for the sperm to journey through the cervix and finding an egg. Moreover, the hormones in these contraceptives help in preventing pregnancy by modifying the uterine lining so that implantation of an embryo (fertilized egg) becomes unlikely.

Another choice of hormonal contraceptives is the total-cycle pill, like the Seasonale. The pill has the equal hormones as contained in other birth controlling pills. But, these hormones are used for a longer period. A female using these extended-cycle pills experiences a lesser number of menstrual cycles.  Usually, the female experiences only four menstrual cycles in a year instead of the usual 13.

The Seasonale pills have the same mixture of two hormones usually in some other contraceptives aided with hormones. But the pills are taken constantly for 12 weeks and soon after with a gap of 1 week with active (placebo) pills, that helps in bringing your periods. Seasonal and LoSeasoniaque are also extended-cycle pills using the same hormones, but with a different configuration. These pills apply the estrogen hormone in the last week, but LoSeasonique gives a lower dose choice.

These are the pills that do have one progestin hormone. Estrogens are not mixed with them and are usually prescribed in breastfeeding females or who are confronted with side effects of estrogens, like nausea and others.

The working of Mini Pills

Mini pill thickens the cervical mucus preventing the sperm reach to the egg. The hormones in the pill also modify the uterine lining. With the change in the uterine lining, the fertilized egg is unlikely to get implanted.  In certain cases, the mini pills obstruct the ovulation, wherein the egg gets released from the ovaries. The doctors advise daily consumption of the pill for preventing the pregnancy.

How useful Are Mini Pills?

In case the mini pills are used correctly and consistently, they are nearly 95 percent effective – a slightly less useful than the standard birth controlling pills.

Where to get the pills from?

Birth controlling pills can be purchased with a medical practitioner’s prescription.

How are the pills packaged?

The pills sets are given to you in a thin case of packing. These sets having standard birth controlling pills have either 28 or 21 pills. While 28-day pills packs have 21 standard pills and 7 placebo (inactive) pills, the 21-day packs have 21 standard pills. These packs of pills are usually marked with the number of days of the week that work as a reminder to you for taking a pill daily. The last 7-day day pack of placebo (inactive pills) in the 28-day pack works as a reminder for beginning an inactive pills course after 21 days.

Certain packs of pills of newer varieties contain nil or just two placebo pills in them.  For preventing a pregnancy, it is very vital to always take all the pills.

A Seasonable extended-cycle pack has 84 active pills of pink color and 7 placebo (inactive) tablets of white color. In the LoSoasonique and Seasonique packs, the last seven tablets have estrogen hormone only.

How to start Birth Controlling Pills?

Consult your doctor when to begin your birth controlling pills. In case you happen to be in between your periods and you have advised to begin your pills, move forward and begin taking the pills anyway. You may probably begin menstruating after about 25 days after beginning the pack of pills.

It is best if you begin taking the pills daily at a given time. However, you may begin taking the pills at any fixed time of the day. The doctors suggest taking the pills either before going to sleep or before your breakfast.  This way they work better and it is easier remembering to take the pills.

The pills for extended-cycle work in the same manner. You may begin using the pill on the first day after your menstruation. In case your menstrual cycle has begun on a Sunday, you may go ahead and begin Seasonale on the same day. Afterwards, start taking 1 pill a day for continuous 84 days.  Based on the pill type you have started, you are given 7 days of taking 1 inactive or estrogen-aided pill daily.

When to begin a fresh Birth Controlling Pills Pack?

You will begin every fresh birth controlling packet of pills on the appointed of the week when you had originally begun it. In case you are using a 21-day packet of pills, begin the new pack of pills exactly after 7 days after finishing the old pack of pills. Or, in case you are using a 28-day pack of pills, start a new pack after finishing the final pill from the old packet.

Irrespective of your periods or no periods, begin a new pack of pills on schedule.

How quickly Birth Controlling Pills begin working?

If taken as per the doctor’s advice, the birth controlling pills are generally very effective from the first month itself as you start taking them.  But to be on the safe side, the doctors also suggest you to go in for some other method of birth control, like the foam or condoms in the first month. After the 1St Month, you can just depend on the pill for birth controlling.

What happens if you forget to take a Birth Controlling Pill?

In case you forget to take a pill, take it whenever you remember during the day. In case you do not remember the whole day and just realize on the next day, move forward and take 2 pills on the next day. In case you forget to take the pill for two consecutive days, take 2 pills on the day you come to realize and two pills the very next day. Afterwards, you will come back on the schedule.

Consult your doctor, in case you happen to miss taking 3 or more pills consecutively. The doctor, in turn, may advise you to take the pill every day until Sunday and then beginning a new pack of pills or discarding the leftover pack and beginning a new pill pack on the same day.

In case of your not remembering taking a pill, you are advised to use another method of birth controlling until finishing a pill pack.  Whenever you do not remember taking a pill, the chances of your ovaries releasing an egg become higher.  In case you miss your menstruation and also did not remember taking one or two pills, go in for your pregnancy test. If you consecutively miss two menstruations, although you have had all the pills as scheduled, you are advised to go in for a pregnancy examination.

You may experience an absence of periods with certain pills. Consult your doctor about the what to anticipate before beginning your pills and what to do in case you do not experience  periods after using the pills.

It is of great importance while using progestin-aided mini pills that each tablet is taken at a fixed scheduled time daily.   In case you happen to miss taking a pill for the entire day or become late by 3 hours or more, always use an alternate birth controlling method, like spermicide or condom during the 48 hours while copulating with your partner.
